011 حرب الإبادة والتجويع ضد الشعب الفلسطيني منذ عام 1948
The War of Genocide and Starvation Against the Palestinian People Since 1948: A Study of Violations of International Humanitarian Law
Abstract
Since the 1948 Nakba, the Palestinian people have been subjected to systematic policies characterized by ethnic cleansing, starvation, siege, and mass killing. This study reviews the manifestations of genocide and starvation in the Palestinian context from the Nakba until the latest war on Gaza. It analyzes these policies in light of international humanitarian law, particularly the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, and highlights the international community’s role—or lack thereof—in addressing these crimes.
1. Introduction
The history of Palestine since 1948 is a record filled with gross violations of human rights. The Palestinian people have endured systematic policies of forced displacement, siege, mass killings, and starvation. These are not isolated incidents but part of a colonial strategy aimed at controlling land while removing its indigenous population.
2. Ethnic Cleansing and the Nakba (1948)
The war of genocide effectively began with the execution of the Zionist “Plan Dalet,” adopted by Zionist militias to expel Palestinians from their towns and villages. More than 750,000 Palestinians were displaced, and over 500 villages were destroyed.
Israeli historian Ilan Pappé writes: “The ethnic cleansing of Palestine was a meticulously planned operation, not an accidental result of war” (Pappé, 2006, p. 48).
Massacres such as Deir Yassin and Kafr Qasim were committed—acts that would qualify as crimes against humanity under international law.
3. Occupation and Policies of Starvation (1967 – Present)
Following the 1967 war, Israel imposed strict military control over the West Bank and Gaza. After the outbreak of the Second Intifada in 2000, collective punishment intensified, including city-wide sieges and restrictions on essential goods.
