A huge turning point in Goldust's career. Since he watched the first part of Brian Pillman's XXX Files on 8 September 1997, something broke inside him. He began to change, slowly but steadily. After all, Marlena was the one who accepted Pillman's outrageous challenge on 18 August 1997, not him... She put herself in that position, dammit!
Behind the scenario, Dustin and Terri's real life was not much different. In his own words from his book Cross Rhodes: Goldust out of the Darkness: "My addiction was making me paranoid. (...) I had become an angry person and verbally abusive to Terri. I thought my anger was justified, but of course it wasn't. None of it was. (...) Prior to the interview, I drank several shots of Crown Royal to calm my nerves. (...) I wanted it to be as powerful as possible. I wasn't drunk, but I was comfortable enough to say anything."
