Crowe plays Maximus Tenth Meridius, a loyal general of the Roman Empire who is betrayed by Commodus, the ambitious son of the emperor, who has murdered his father and has taken the throne. It was a public success and was nominated for a multitude of awards, including five Oscars. Oscar for Best Picture in year 2000.
