The second man to be killed on an Austin block this week had been livestreaming himself on Facebook when he was fatally shot Wednesday evening, according to a police report.
Police found 42-year-old Kevin Watson in a strip mall parking lot on the 5000 block of West Madison Street around 6:15 p.m. as a second man knelt over him, trying to stop his bleeding. A 26-year-old man had been shot to death Tuesday afternoon on the same block in an apparent rifle attack.
A witness at the scene told police Watson had been livestreaming at the time of the shooting, the police report stated. Cell phone video from a second witness and surveillance camera footage showed that someone in a black ski mask had leaned out of the passenger side window of a white car and pointed a gun before the car reversed out of the parking lot and headed for the Eisenhower Expressway.
Watson was shot once in the chest, police said. He was pronounced dead less than an hour later at Mt. Sinai Hospital, according to the medical examiner's office.
Around 1:30 on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said Brandon Maxey was driving in a black sedan at the intersection of West Madison Street and North Lavergne Avenue — across the street and a few steps to the east from where Watson was killed — when another car pulled up alongside him and its passengers started to fire.
Maxey was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital less than an hour later, according to the medical examiner's office.
Officers at the scene of the shooting recovered at least 40 shell casings, including at least two types of rifle rounds.
No one is in custody for either slaying, police said, and Area Four detectives are investigating.
