A dangerous killer, nicknamed Bluebeard, has the citizens of Paris living in terror. Everyone, that is, except for Lucille (Jean Parker), a modest seamstress who ignores the public outcry and decides to go for a nighttime stroll through the city. During her walk, she meets Gaston Morrell (John Carradine), a puppeteer who offers her a job as a dressmaker for his marionette show. Lucille's arrival at the company inevitably sparks the jealousy of Renee (Nils Asther), Gaston’s lover. What neither woman knows is that Gaston hides a dark side they will soon wish they had never discovered.
